The Massacre of the Tutsi
In my opinion, the massacre of the Tutsi tribe was driven by numerous factors including Anti-Semitism. According to Dr. Greg Stanton, there are eight stages of genocide: classification, symbolization, dehumanization, organization, polarization, and preparation (Stanton, mpsaz.org). Similar to the Holocaust in which Hitler classified the perfect race as blonde hair, blue eyes, non-Jewish, Rwandan society was heavily classified. In the case of the Tutsi massacre, society was classified by ethnic background, such as Hutu versus Tutsi, and I believe that the Jewish ancestry that the Tutsi had was heavily involved in the classification. It has also been claimed that the Hutu and the Tutsi tribe was distinguished by nose size and eye color (Stanton, mpsaz.org). Unfortunately even today, there are many negative stereotypes surrounding Jews including the notion that Jews have big noses and are greedy.
